Introduce your children to bushwalking and bird watching by completing this accessible and leisurely walk.
The walk is on a concrete pathway which meanders along Cranks Creek and Lake Doonella. It is a 5.8 km loop trail accessed via multiple entrances to Alec Loveday Park, Outlook Drive or Hooper Crescent, Tewantin and will take around an hour and a half.
Stop to read the information signs along the walk to find out more about the vegetation, animals, and birdlife to be found in the area. Play eye spy with children to identify trees like brush box, scribbly gum, mangrove, and paperbark. Look up high to view epiphytes and orchids.
Teach children to walk quietly in the bush so that they are rewarded with bird sightings, including Pale-headed Rosella and Red-browed Finches, or Sea Eagle close to Lake Doonella.
End your walk with a picnic using one of the park’s picnic tables at a park entrance.
